New season !!! 2010
Seeds catalogs are in and it seems like ANYTHING could be possible !! We plan to be mixing quite a few new varieties in with the tried and true standards. Peppers and eggplant will be started later in February and tomatoes will be next. Lots of hot pepper varieties, cute miniature sweet salad peppers, some oriental eggplants and a couple of lavender varieties will be part of our 2010 season. We’re looking very carefully at the resistance of different types of tomatoes and plan to try some that are more resistant to late blight and have earlier maturation dates.
The greenhouse is keeping pretty warm – 50-60′s during sunny days with outside temperatures in the 30′s. We’ve overwintered some cool weather crops in the greenhouse and will see how they do once the sunshine picks up in February.
Will be attending many planning meetings for the North Country Grown Cooperative, CSA meetings and several Farmer’s Markets meetings. Lots of “thinking” going on as growers get together and talk about the next season!!! Big plans !!
Looking forward to fresh greens…. while huddling around the woodstove eating some nice warm soup made from last year’s harvest ! It’s amazing what delicious meals you can create after rummaging around the freezer and the vegetable section of the basement!!
We’ll keep you posted !!
