What’s happening……
Seeds orders are in and we’re mixing quite a few new varieties in with the tried and true standards. Peppers and eggplant have been started and tomatoes are next. Lots of hot pepper varieties, cute miniature sweet salad peppers, some oriental eggplants and a couple of lavender varieties.
The greenhouse parts have arrived and the posts were driven in the ground this week. Most of the frame was put up last fall. When all of the frame is up we’ll wait for a nice calm day and have a “greenhouse raising” to get the plastic on. We start all of our seeds inside in a nice warm sunny window and just need to have the greenhouse to keep things going when we run out of space inside. We’ll have a heater available, but will wait to move things outside until the weather is a lot warmer. We’ll be trying to get some cool weather crops direct seeded in the greenhouse – maybe create a section of raised beds.
Have been attending many planning meetings for the North Country Grown Cooperative, CSA meetings and several Farmer’s Markets. Lots of “thinking” going on as growers get together and talk about the next season!!! Big plans !!
We’re suffering from spring fever……beginning to eye the new raised beds… wondering if it would hurt to put in a few (just a few) kale or spinach seeds….but it’s still pretty cold and it looks just a bit too muddy yet ! Looking forward to fresh greens…. while huddling around the woodstove eating some nice warm soup made from last year’s harvest !
We’ll keep you posted !!
